A Local’s Guide to the Flower Fields of San Diego

April 4, 2024

We are spilling the seeds on where to find the most stunning flower fields around San Diego — not just in Carlsbad but also right here in La Jolla. Whether you’re here for a weekend or a local looking for a new adventure, we’ve got you covered.

The Carlsbad Flower Fields

First up, let’s talk about the Carlsbad Flower Fields. This is one of the most notable flower fields in San Diego with 55 sprawling acres of ranunculus flowers. With activities for kids, food trucks, and garden education, you and your family can easily spend a few hours getting lost in this floral paradise.

What’s There to Do? Aside from taking a thousand photos, you can hop on a Wagon Tour. It costs $8 for adults and $4 for kids (3-10 years old), and it’s free for the little ones under 3. This is a relaxed way to see the flowers without tiring your legs out.

Learning in the Garden: The Master Gardeners of San Diego have put together a Demonstration Garden right in the middle of all those flowers. It has a variety of plant setups showing off how you can garden in a way that’s good for the planet. Plus, it’s full of ideas for your own space, no matter how big or small.

La Jolla’s Flower Trails

Now, for the hidden gem trails in La Jolla, where it’s not just about the flowers. These trails offer some of the best views of the ocean and are a prime spot for seal watching. And yes, you might get a bit wet exploring the La Jolla Tide Pools, but it’s totally worth it.

Right out Your Front Door: Lucky for you, if you are staying at Orli there are dozens of trails right outside your room that will have access to floral blooms during spring. Head down to the cove to see the cliffs lined with native flora or explore some of the trails just a bit further including Torrey Pines Beach walk. For all nearby trails, check out this guide.

Family-Friendly Spots: Thirsty or hungry after your walk? With the majority of these trails being just a short distance from the heart of La Jolla, there are always places to grab a bite, drink or even some shopping.
