Windansea Beach

A local favorite, Windansea Beach is known for its powerful waves and stunning sunset views. As the sun dips below the horizon, the rocky shoreline takes on a golden glow, making it a photographer’s dream. The iconic palm-thatched surf shack adds to the charm, making this a must-visit for those looking for a dramatic oceanfront sunset.

La Jolla Children’s Pool

Watch the sky turn pink and orange as La Jolla’s famous harbor seals lounge on the sand. The seawall offers a perfect vantage point to take in the sunset with unobstructed views of the coastline. While the beach itself is often reserved for the seals, the nearby cliffs and walkways provide some of the best sunset views in La Jolla.

Black’s Beach

For those willing to make the trek, Black’s Beach offers one of the most secluded and rewarding sunset experiences in San Diego. Located beneath the cliffs of Torrey Pines, this spot is perfect for adventurous sunset seekers. The steep hike down is worth it for the panoramic ocean views, especially when the sky erupts in hues of purple and gold.

Torrey Pines Gliderport

For a truly unique sunset experience, head to the Torrey Pines Gliderport, where paragliders soar against the backdrop of the setting sun. Perched high above the cliffs, this spot offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Pacific. Bring a blanket and watch as the sky transforms.

The Hidden Swing With a View

Imagine a full bird’s eye view of La Jolla, all viewed from the seat of a swing. This Instagram-worthy spot is accessible from the Birch Aquarium parking lot, just up a short trail. Come for sunset and watch the horizon turn a golden hue – don’t forget your camera!

Eddie V’s

If you prefer to pair your sunset with a cocktail and fresh seafood, Eddie V’s is the place to be. This upscale restaurant boasts floor-to-ceiling ocean views, perfect for watching the sun dip into the horizon while enjoying a plate of oysters and a glass of wine.

Coronado Beach

With its wide, golden sands and the historic Hotel del Coronado as a backdrop, this beach offers one of the most cinematic sunset views in San Diego. The mineral-rich sand shimmers as the sun sets, creating a dreamy, glowing effect. This is an ideal spot for a romantic evening stroll.

Powerhouse Park, Del Mar

For a sunset picnic with a view, Powerhouse Park in Del Mar is ideal. The grassy bluff overlooking the ocean provides a peaceful spot to unwind, while the gentle waves and occasional live music make for a memorable golden-hour experience.

Dog Beach (Del Mar & Ocean Beach)

Sunset walks are even better with your four-legged friend. Del Mar’s Dog Beach allows off-leash fun from Labor Day through June 15, while Ocean Beach Dog Beach is open year-round. Both spots offer plenty of space for dogs to run through the surf while you enjoy the vibrant evening sky.
