The Best Father’s Day Experiences in La Jolla, CA

June 12, 2026

Skip the gift wrap. This year, give him a day that actually looks like him: surf, golf, and a good laugh, all within a few miles of the coast. We’ve done the planning. You just have to book it.

Two surfers carrying boards walk across a rocky shoreline beside rolling ocean waves in warm evening light.

1. Surf La Jolla Shores with Everyday California

La Jolla Shores is one of the best beginner-friendly beaches in San Diego. It’s a long, gently sloping stretch with consistent waves and enough room to actually learn how to surf.

Through Orli’s partnership with Everyday California, guests receive partner rates on rentals, making it easy to build a Father’s Day morning around the water. Pick up a surfboard, paddleboard, kayak, or wetsuit from the Everyday California team, then head out for a few hours along the coast.

What Everyday California offers:

  • Private and semi-private surf lessons at La Jolla Shores
  • Morning sessions available, but book in advance for Father’s Day weekend
  • All skill levels welcome, including beginners
  • Boards, wetsuits, and instruction all included
  • Also offers kayak tours, snorkeling, and paddleboarding

Several golf balls and irons rest on a reflective glass surface with a softly blurred background.

2. A Round of Golf

La Jolla sits within easy driving distance of some of the best public golf courses in Southern California. Torrey Pines is the headliner, but there are a few others worth knowing.

Torrey Pines Golf Course is the obvious choice, and for good reason. Two public courses, North and South, are set on cliffs above the Pacific. This course was also home to the 2008 and 2021 U.S. Opens. Book well in advance, especially for a summer weekend.

Encinitas Ranch Golf Course is a nearby favorite. A public course with ocean-view holes and a laid-back atmosphere that suits all skill levels. The back nine delivers some dramatic vistas without the Torrey Pines price tag or advance booking pressure.

Coronado Golf Course is about 40 minutes from Orli, but is walkable, affordable, and scenic in a completely different way. Enjoy postcard views of the San Diego Bay and the downtown skyline.

Golden sunset light illuminates Mediterranean-style homes and palm trees overlooking the ocean.

3. The Comedy Store La Jolla

The Comedy Store is a legend for a reason. The original on Sunset Strip has launched more careers than anyone can count, and the La Jolla outpost brings that same energy right to the coast. It’s an intimate room, which means there’s no bad seat and the laughs hit harder.

Father’s Day weekend shows are available now. Reserve in advance because this one fills up. Pair it with dinner nearby before the show and you’ve got a great evening ahead of you.

Waves wash onto a sandy beach bordered by smooth rock formations beneath a bright, partly cloudy sky.

Make a Weekend Of It

Father’s Day does not need to be complicated. Book the surf lesson, spend an afternoon playing a round of golf, grab the comedy tickets, and enjoy the coast. A better gift is not always something to wrap. Sometimes it is a few well-planned hours in La Jolla that will make memories for years to come.
